RE-DEFINING ALTERNATIVE TOURISM:
ADAPTATIONS AND FUTURE STEPS

THInC 2022 will be hosted in an ONLINE format on the 4 OCTOBER 2022

The main aim of the event will be to promote international debate on re-defining alternative tourism, which is understood as niche tourism with common goals of social justice, inclusion, environmental protection and local development.

By holding this conference we aim to provide a creative space to propel discussions around what ‘alternative tourism’ is today and facilitate the exchange of knowledge through the sharing of innovative alternative tourism practices globally. Scholars, practitioners and students from all over the world will exchange information both on academic conceptual advances in the theorizing of alternative tourism and innovative industry practices.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Colleagues,

There is no doubt that we are living in volatile times of great uncertainty.
With the growing numbers of COVID infections and the probability of a 6th wave and the uncertainty of the global energy hikes which have greatly increased the cost of travel, we are all victims of this instability at every level.

We at THINc are determined to forge ahead and hold a high-content conference, with the greatest international outreach, while being accessible, sustainable, socially responsible and with the lowest level of risk. So for now and given the current volatility, we have therefore taken the decision to restructure the THINC for 2022 into a streamlined ONE day, super-charged and compacted online event on 4th OCTOBER 22, with 4 keynotes and 4 parallel sessions.

This will allow us to hold a truly impacting academic event with the certainty that we will overcome all constraints.
We are currently re-thinking and restructuring the future of THINC so that it maintains its academic purpose and forward-thinking content but also, through its organization, can bring innovative organisational features that will also showcase the modern aspects of events and communication

Please join us, by submitting an abstract, or as a participant.
We will consider it an honour to welcome you.

Invite From Fiona Bakas
As Chair of the THInC 2022 Scientific Committee I would like to welcome you to share with us your knowledge of tourism, focusing on alternative tourism. In THInC 2022 we will, together, envision how tourism can achieve more social justice, apply environmentally regenerative approaches, and promote equality: for and with local residents. Help us highlight and disseminate the innovative and inspiring work being done on tourism as a tool for local development rather than just economic growth.
Cheers, Fiona Bakas

Invite From Fabio Carbone
The impact of the pandemic has generated a crisis in tourism that has never been seen before. Traditional tourism models have been forced to face various contradictions linked to their unsustainability. The pandemic, by the way, has only accelerated the emergence of issues that we would soon have had to address anyway, as various evidence already suggested in the pre-COVID19 world (eg. Overtourism, environmental unsustainability, just to mention some of the issues). However, the radical psychological change in the approach to holidays caused by the last two years of pandemic, and the fact that the human relationship is worth more than before, represent a unique opportunity to rethink some aspects of tourism effectively, and like it was never done before. Let us seize this historic opportunity! Dear friends and colleagues, I am really pleased to invite you to the second edition of our annual event, the Tourism and Hospitality International Congress (THInC), a space that this year was specifically designed to gather and define alternatives and sustainable paths for the future of tourism. We look forward to your valuable contribution. See you at the THInC2022
